In the first of a series for Iowa Public Radio, KCAW's Robert Woosley interviewed Dr. Dobler and yours truly about the past, present, and future SJ(C?). Dr. Dobler's interview aired tonight, and I'm on Wednesday.

Dobler’s BS is getting smoother than ever. If I didn’t know better I’d think he was a good and sincere person with the interests of the community at heart.
Dobler is just a dirty business man working the system. I hope he gets what he deserves for ruining a wonderful place.
If you take a listen to my interview, you'll notice that I make no mention of President Dobler. In many ways, maligning Dr. Dobler's character places focus on the wrong place.
Instead, I think we need to focus on the actions that were taken, and the decisions being made today. Any new venture must be credible, open, transparent, and accountable.
I agree Chris, open, transparent, and accountable to donors.
The original mission of SJ was to provide an education for Native Alaskans to help them face the challenges of the 20th Century. In the late '80s and early '90s that mission was ignored and Trustees and administration changed the mission to "put the school on the map" and got the school deeply in debt with no vision for paying that debt. Dr. Dobler may have been a part of that change but he was a very small player at that time. He has tried to keep the ship afloat and his only downfall was to try and save a sinking ship with less then truthful messages to many of us. Perhaps the man did his best. Clyde
Chris, good job of taking the high road. If there is a future, it has to be about mission - students, rural AK, etc. Of course, the past has to be considered, but the personalities of the players. In most corporate mergers, the past administration is kept on for a minimal time, and the future administrators will fully take over asap. I would love to see a model like Johnson & Johnson - if a potential decision doesn't me the credo - don't do it. Open and transparent.
For SJ to have success in the future they need to cut all ties with Dr. Dobler. How someone who was at the helm of an institution when it catastrophically failed, was retained in any sore of capacity is beyond comprehension.
PLEASE stop referring to David Dobler as Dr. Dobler...he did not earn a PhD in anything!!!
