Sheldon Jackson Closure Big News

Each January the Sitka Daily Sentinel publishes a year-end feature of big news events. This year, the loss of Sheldon Jackson College topped the list as the biggest story of 2007. You're telling me.

Did anyone else notice that the story said that on June 29 it was announced that all contracts would end in 30 days? I called the paper and ask them to print a correction. So far they have not. I encourage all of you to call and ask they the correctly report how employes were dismissed with one days notice.

They just got a little confused.
This is how it went.

Ted says, "Hey Bob, listen to this. 'On June 29 announced all contracts would end the 30th.' How's that sound?"

Bob says, "Ted, you idiot, that's one day, you must meen 'all contracts will end after 30 days.'"

Ted, "My bad, what was I thinking."

Has anybody any comments about the latest subdivisions of SJC property and the sale of it? It seems that there are buyers ready to plunk down some money. Has anybody heard any details yet?

I sure wish that the State Attorney General or someone else like the FBI would look into the underhand dealings at SJ. Someone if going to make some money on the land sales.

Has anyone else noticed that there has been no advertising of the land sales yet the trustees have said there are some deals pending? Is that suspicious or what?

A new real estate agency is handeling the sales so no money or info gets to stay in Sitka. The new Century 21 agency is of course located at DSH anf the agent will be Sky, This is supposed to happen in Feb.

Am I the only one who smells something funny? There are 3 highly qualified realtors here in Sitka with years of experience. It seems if SJ truly wanted to maximize the cash return on the sale of the land they would have used one of the local agencies. It sure looks to me as if SJ already had the land sold to out of town interests. I would encourage anyone who knows any of the trustees to remind them that there should be some loyalty to Sitka and to the people who live here and will continue to live here after SJ is chopped up.

Russ and Sky will make a few bucks and move onto another hatchet job down the line and barely look over their shoulders at the mess they helped leave behind. It is obvious they have no loyalty to the legacy of 130 years of SJ or to Sitka.

I find it interesting that they didn't ask Candi Barger to do it as her mom was on the board.
