Commencement

This is surely a bittersweet time for many. Several former SJ(C?) students survived the closure of their college, and will graduate in the coming weeks. I am very proud of them, and humbled. These students were placed in the worst of circumstances and refused to be defined by them. SJ(C?) failed them, but they did not fail themselves.

I would encourage everyone to celebrate their success in Sitka, Juneau, Anchorage, and all points in between.

APU - Held April 26th.

UAS Sitka Commencement: Friday, May 2, 7:00PM - Sheet'ka Kwaán Naa Kahídi

UAS Juneau Commencement: Sunday, May 4, 2:00PM - UAS Recreation Center

The dedication to advancing ones knowledge of life and history is one of the greatest advances humans can expect to obtain. May God's grace go with each of the graduates as they enter the stage of life where we test the waters of learning. Clyde

Pat and I were honored to attend the UAS Sitka graduation and were so very proud of our former SJ students: Jeff, Eunice, Maria and Patricia. They have been through so much and there they were in cap and gown finishing what they started. Dr. Harrington and Kathy Newman gave a wonderful tribute to the old SJC and it prompted tears that were both sad and happy. Sad because who would've thought we'd be at the Nakahidi House watching them graduate in 2008 in another college's ceremony, and happy because UAS was SO gracious and kind in giving us our own spot in the program to watch our graduates graduate. It was very touching. So congratulations to the above mentioned. We are proud of you! Pat and Diana
