Tribal College Meeting

A meeting has been scheduled to discuss the potential of developing a tribal college in Sitka. The announcement was made by Ted Wright, who was part of a group to lead this effort years ago, and who has received several calls since SJ's closure. The meeting is not necessarily about converting SJ to a tribal college, but to discuss the issue of a tribal college in general. The meeting will take place 6:00 - 7:30 PM Thursday, October 11 in the Maksoutoff Room of the Centennial Building.

For those of you interested in learning more about tribal colleges, the following report probably is more than enough to get you started:

Hi Ted!
You have my support.
I hope you are success full with your idea.
I personally think that SJ would be a great place for a tribal college.
Especially the hatchery program with its hands on approach to teaching science would fit nicely in a tribal college.
I see in the self Evaluations that tribal colleges have to do under the TCUP grants, that more and more tribal colleges attract Caucasian students as well (see NW Indian College - Lummi Tribe) due to the student success rate at tribal colleges.
To bad I can not be there for the meeting.
I really hope that the board of trustees can see this as a possible way out of the SJ dilemma.

I certainly hope that a tribal college would be under different administration. The previous SJ administration drove the College into the ground through their total incompetence.

TheyCallmeMell your comments were right on.

I also agree with others that a new admin needs to be hired to make a tribal college work.

Current admin will not work!!!
