Kudos to Board members Heather McCarty, Arliss Sturgelewski, and Gary Paxton for publicly speaking about the situation at SJ(C?). It's little and late, but it is an improvement.
The Sentinel spoke with Paxton and Sturgelewski about the recent Trustee meeting. From the article I've gleaned the following:
President Dobler will be retained; I assume everyone else will be unemployed by 11/30.
Certain property will be sold ASAP to meet debt obligations. The property: Incinerator site, Jeff Davis/SMC corner lot, and Sisters Lane lot. The debt: Alaska Growth, IRS, City of Sitka, Staff & Faculty severance and leave.
The intent is to preserve the core of campus in the hope that a new entity will be interested in running and education program there. Paxton stated that preliminary conversations have happened with two organizations.
The article does not address any specifics relating to Hames, the hatchery, or childcare center. I suspect negotiations with each remain active.
I imagine the Board also discussed the lawsuits filed by AGC and Travelers Insurance, but I haven't heard.
...Meanwhile, Chilkat Services has placed an ad in the paper looking for interested folks to rent apartments and houses on campus. Russ Thorpe of Chilkat said that real estate should be coming up for sale shortly, as well.

After running that erroneous article about the state of SJ (Dobler’s initial interview after the school’s closure/teach-out plan) and then refusing to print any of the numerous letters written by former students and staff correcting Dobler’s blatant BS of the facts, how do we know that the information published by the Sentinel is accurate? Specifically, monies owed to faculty and staff.

I have to agree and have to wonder if the board is staying intentionally ignorant so they don’t have to feel guilty about killing a 130 year old school.
don't buy , rent , lease or support this sham of Chilkat Services. the staff will not benefit from this fraud amnd the students will not see their deposits and other monies refunded. CHILL-kat will steal the first dollsr and the rest will do nothing to further the interests of the "futre of SJ"
ADVISE friends and neighbors to rent or buy elsewhere. The buildings/housing are in poor condition and other housing can be found elsewhere...
Boycott this effort until a plan is in place to make the family of SJ whole.
I know for a fact that most of the buildings are in poor shape. Many have or will shortly have leaking roofs except the 4 with new roofs. I'd also guess that more than one of the Brady units will have more sewage leaking into the walls. Oh and did I mention that Metlakatla South will fall off its foundation if we have an earthquake and the 1st level floor is about to collapse. Any of the homes that have oil fired boilers are all about to fail except one. Two are missing heating sources totally. All have substandard wiring. About the only house that is in fair condition in Austin the President’s House. I’d suggest they sell that one first.
