The Sentinel recently reported that Travelers Casualty and Surety Company of America has filed a lawsuit against SJ(C?) for $100,000.00. The suit alleges that SJ failed to hold Travelers harmless as per contract. When the Alaska Commission on Postsecondary Education (ACPE) sought to tap the surety bond, Travelers contends that SJ was required to cover the costs. What kind of insurance policy expects the insured to pay the costs?
Here's one possible scenario: ACPE requires surety bond. Travelers says "No way. Not unless you (SJ) indemnify us." SJ says, "well, we need the bond, but can only get one if we agree to not hold Travelers liable for it. OK." This could have happened. After all, SJ would not have been able to continue without it, and Travelers may have felt that SJ was too risky to insure without such a clause.
We'll see where this goes....

Once Travelers Casualty and Surety Company gets a judgment I hope they send SJ to collections!
This may be one of the reasons SJ is making such a big move to "collect" as much back tuition from students? Since they don't ever think long term, this won't help with alumni cultivation... lol (and trust, I know SJ ain't coming back, so there's no alumni cultivation needed!)
The interesting part is that it's so chicken to say to a student who's been screwed over (just those who are currently at other schools as a result of SJ's closure) that now as you pay for another school, SJ is sending you to collections.
I think former students, especially graduates, are completely fair and appropriate game.
Dr. Dobler and company, where's the heart?
Heart? He anit got no heart.
The only students who deserve to be sent to collection are those who actually accrued legitimate debt with that college.
If it has anything to do with Brian Chamberlain, SJ has NO RIGHT (by law, actually) to require repayment.
Zip, zero, none.
Transcripts are now available through the state - regardless of weather you have paid your SJ debts.
True, you can get your transcripts, but they can trash your credit? I think NOT!
But, that is important knowledge. You CAN request your transcripts through the state. No matter what you owe, those records belong to you. I suggest you get some copies, even if you don't need them now!
I'd suggest everyone should get a copy and make sure they are correct! That's what I'd do!
Rumor has it that all SJ employees including Dobler and Sharpe have been laid off as of the end of the month. Does anyone know if this is true?
Yes it is true that all remaining employees have been given 30 days notice. Dan and Keith are working to keep the Hatchery going.
Good for Dan and Keith! Good luck.
my my my, how the tables turn....
Mwahahahah....sorry....I know it is not nice.
Good luck to our hatchery guys...
And Dobler? How does it feel?
